How does perfume production work?

Professional perfume production at NEROPI runs in six clear phases: briefing and fragrance concept (week 1), formula development with fragrance samples (weeks 2–5), design and packaging (parallel), regulatory with CPSR and CPNP (weeks 6–10), production and filling (weeks 10–12), shipping and launch (weeks 12–14). Total duration: 8 to 14 weeks.

Perfume production is not a mysterious process — it follows clear, traceable steps. From the first fragrance idea to the shelf-ready bottle, we work in six phases over typically 8 to 14 weeks. Each phase delivers concrete results for your approval — full control, no black box.

Fragrance Development is Craft, not Chance

Our perfumers work with over 2,000 raw materials, natural extracts and synthetic molecules. Each formula is composed according to your briefing, evaluated internally with a test group and refined in multiple iterations — until you say: exactly that.

The final formula is documented, IFRA-tested and stored securely with us. For Private Label, the formula belongs to you — contractually recorded.

Briefing & Initial Consultation

We discuss your brand vision, target group, desired fragrance direction, price point and planned quantity. The result is a concrete offer with all cost blocks and a timeline — you decide whether we start.

Weeks 2–5·2–4 weeks

Formula Development

Our perfumers create 3–5 fragrance compositions to your briefing. You receive the samples for testing, give feedback, we adjust. After approval, the final IFRA check runs — securing the formula regulatorily.

Weeks 4–7·3–4 weeks (parallel)

Design & Packaging

In parallel with fragrance development: bottle selection, label design and outer carton. You provide print files or we handle the design. Standard bottles available immediately, custom variants have lead time.

Weeks 6–10·3–5 weeks

Regulatory: CPSR & CPNP

Safety assessment (CPSR) by certified toxicologist, then CPNP notification in the EU cosmetics portal. Only then may products be sold in the EU. We coordinate this step completely internally.

Production & Filling

Your batch is produced under ISO 22716 conditions in Germany: fragrance base production, maturation, filtration, filling into your bottles, labeling, packaging in outer carton and inspection of every unit.

Shipping & Launch

Shipping to your warehouse, store or directly to retailers — EU-wide. We support the launch with product photos on request, marketing assets and all documents you need for shop listings.

Frequently Asked Questions on the Process

Can the process run faster?

Yes — especially with White Label, since fragrance development and CPSR are not needed. Then you can deliver in 4 to 6 weeks. For Private Label, individual phases can be parallelized — 10 instead of 14 weeks is realistic.

What happens if fragrance samples are not liked?

Revisions are included in formula development. Typically 2–3 adjustment rounds until the fragrance is right. If no direction works, we restart the briefing together.

Who is my contact person during the project?

Exactly one person — from briefing to shipping. No redirections, no ticketing system. All decisions go through your dedicated contact.

Are there contractual milestones?

Yes. Our payments are phase-based: deposit at start, partial payment after formula approval, balance at delivery.
